Heritage Oil Beach Volleyball 4’s Competition match report

On perhaps the hottest day of the year 40 beach volleyballers took the sands at the Gunsite for the Heritage Oil Beach Volleyball 4’s competition.
Real stamina was required as the temperatures soared and over 300 bottles of water (supplied by Victor Hugo Wines) were gratefully consumed, kept cool by 10 large bags of ice.
Over 30 matches were played over a period of 6 hours, although the teams did stop play for lunch kindly provided by the Gunsite Cafe.
The ladies games were perhaps the closest on record with the winning teams being ahead by a margin of two to five points on average during the preliminary rounds.
All players deserved to be mentioned for making it through the day! however, special mention to Nicki Appleton for court coverage in the final and Karolina Zablocka for her hitting prowess.
In the men’s final special mention to Marco Pereira for captaining his side in a well fought final, however it was a winning team effort by Matthew, Mick, Stuart and Jose, a side that had not lost a match all day.
Ladies Winners:  Twisted Chicks, Karolina, Mirka, Agnieska and Marta
Mens Winners: It’s too Hot, Stuart, Mick, Jose and Matthew (not in picture)
Runners up were: Logicalis (Nicki, Wendy, Ann and Laura) and Shoot to Kill (Marco, Dinarte, Igor, Ricardo)
The JVA would also like to thank Diane Fitzjohn for providing sports and remedial massage therapy throughout the day.  Diane can be reached on 07797 725808.
