This season there were several changes to the HLB Jackson Fox team with their setters and one middle hitter from last season not playing this year.
It was decided to move 2 players from Tigers to Foxes to help strengthen the team and mix things up a bit.
HLB Jackson Foxes had a shaky start to the season with a walk over against the Juniors and tough losses against Tigers and Jets taking place before Foxes were able to gel as a team and incorporate their new players.
However, this all changed last weekend when HLB Jackson Foxes finally hit their stride against their sister team Tigers.
Foxes got off to a flying start in the first set taking the lead thanks to the strong serving of Jo Carter.
Following another run of serves by Lorna Cavey, with excellent covering and pasing by all the Foxes players they went on to trade points and take the first set 25-19.
The 2nd set was much closer with plenty of exciting rallies and strong play by both teams – which saw Tigers take the set 25-21.
Despite Tigers taking the 2nd set, they appeared to be on the back foot throughout the 3rd and seemed unable to provide any answers the strong attacks made on the outside by Elaine Kelly, Mirka Panka and through the middle by Marta Chodazcek.  This meant that they were unable to prevent HLB Jackson Foxes winning the 3rd set by a comfortable margin of 10 points.
Tigers appeared to get their 2nd wind in the 4th set and came back fighting.   Despite accurate setting by Chantal Coram mixing up the direction of the Foxes attacks, Tigers managed to maintain their early lead to close out the set 25-18.
Unfortunately HLB Jackson Foxes appeared to run out of steam slightly in the 5th set.  Despite continued strong hitting, Foxes seemed unable to find the gaps in the Tigers’ defence, allowing Tigers to edge ahead throughout the set and finally go on to win the match by 3 sets to 2 after nearly 2 hours of play.
