it was the Volleyball England Beach Tour finals in Bournemouth – only the top 22 teams according to this year’s points were eligible to take part.

I was asked by my partner from two years ago, Davide Grandolfo (with whom I have won my only ever VEBT tournament, Margate 2010), to play with him in the finals as his current partner couldn’t make it. We were seeded 11th for the finals.

We won our first two games 2:0 (beating 22nd and 6th seeds). In the third round we played against Tom Lord and Robin Miedzybrodski (team GB who compete in the FIVB World Tour and were ranked 77th in the world at the time). We lost that game 2:0 but because it was a double elimination tournament (you are only out after you lose 2 games) we had another chance to qualify for the semifinals.

We have won our next 3 games (against 8th, 7th and 4th seeds) and made it into the semis, unfortunately again against Lord/Miedzybrodski. We have lost the semis 2:0 but gave them a good game, especially in the second set where we lost 21:18.

Lord/Miedzybrodski eventually won the finals as well.
