Report from our 2010 mixed 4s tournament

The Airtel Vodafone Mixed Fours Beach Volleyball Tournament on 3 July was a huge success – both ‘in it to win it’ and the less competitive ‘just for fun’ tournaments attracted plenty of players and great weather. The 20 teams who took part included men and ladies ranging from complete beginners to island players – and many returned on Sunday to take part in the King and Queen of the Beach games. Many thanks too to Airtel Vodafone for being our key sponsors, Cimandis for supplying water for the competitors, and the lovely Ciara Ahern for giving sports massages to everyone who needed one (there were lots). Her website is www.sportsmassagejersey.je) The Airtel Vodafone Mixed Fours Beach Volleyball Tournament finished with a fantastic final – The Italian Job beating We Dig 4 Play 27-25 in a closely-fought limited time final. The standard was high: The Italian Job included Alan Caser, the island men’s squad coach, and Dominika Izdebska, a member of the island ladies’ squad. In We Dig 4 Play, they were up against four seasoned island players including Bero Borus, the island captain. Earlier, in the less competitive ‘No So Pro’ final, Proair High Fliers beat Investec Zebras after a day in which neither team had lost a group match. On Sunday, players won points individually. Dominika The Airtel Vodafone Beach Volleyball men’s and ladies’ fours tournaments take place on 24 July, and entries are still open. Training sessions are open to everyone and are held every Thursday from 6-8pm at the Gunsite.
